A metal framework, in the context of dentistry, refers to the supportive structure made from metal or metal alloys that underlies and provides strength to dental restorations such as removable partial dentures (RPDs), complete dentures, fixed dental bridges, or implant-supported prostheses. Here are some characteristics and descriptions of metal frameworks:
1. **Purpose**: The primary purpose of a metal framework is to provide structural support and retention for dental restorations, ensuring they withstand the forces of mastication (chewing) and remain stable over time.
2. **Materials**: Metal frameworks can be fabricated from various materials, including cobalt-chromium steel, stainless steel, titanium, and gold alloys. The choice of material often depends on the specific requirements of the case, cost considerations, and the patient's needs.
3. **Customization**: Metal frameworks are custom-made to fit the unique shape of the patient's oral cavity. They are designed based on precise impressions and wax-ups to ensure a comfortable and accurate fit.
4. **Strength and Durability**: Metal frameworks are known for their high strength and durability, which is essential for long-term use in the oral environment. They can resist bending and breakage under normal biting forces.
5. **Lightweight**: Despite their strength, metal frameworks are typically lightweight, making them more comfortable for patients to wear compared to bulkier alternatives.
6. **Support for Teeth and Gums**: In the case of removable dentures, the metal framework supports the artificial teeth and gums, allowing them to function like natural teeth.
7. **Connectors and Clasps**: For removable partial dentures, the framework includes connectors (which join the denture base to the abutment teeth) and clasps (which wrap around the teeth to provide retention). These components are designed to be discreet and non-irritating.
8. **Maintenance**: Metal frameworks require regular cleaning and maintenance to prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar, which can affect both the longevity of the restoration and the patient's oral health.
9. **Aesthetic Considerations**: While metal frameworks offer many functional benefits, they may not be ideal for visible areas due to their metallic appearance. However, advances in materials and design have led to more aesthetic options, such as chrome-cobalt frameworks with a tooth-colored coating.
10. **Implant Abutments**: For implant-supported restorations, the metal framework may serve as an abutment that connects the dental crown or bridge to the implant fixture.

Digital production of dentures
Hesheng Dental Lab is also working digitally. Professionals know it: perfect dentures can be made in just a few steps with meticulous work! From scanning, milling, and 3D printing to customization and firing, everything is done in our laboratories with extreme precision and the highest level of dental technology. In the digital production of dentures, we use advanced technology: CAD/CAM scanners and milling technology as well as 3D printing processes.
A big practical advantage is the use of the 3Shape Unite app. Here, dentists can easily upload scan data and transfer it to our dental lab – for a smooth workflow. Then we will take care of the implementation.
Steps in the production of digital dentures:
(1) A laser scanner is used to scan the patient's dental impressions.
(2) Intelligent software transmits the data to the milling unit or to the 3D printer
(3) Dentures are milled or 3D printed from ceramic blocks using the latest precision technology.
(4) Machined dentures are hand-adjusted by experienced dental technicians to perfectly match the individually chosen tooth colour and fit.
(5) The ceramics are fired at high temperatures in a sintering furnace.
In the past, impressions were made so that dental technicians could accurately see the relationship between dentition and teeth. If you only scan and no longer use the denture model, you will not be able to check how well your new dentures fit with other teeth. This reduces the quality. With 3D printing, we're safe. This means that we can quickly and easily create plastic tooth models based on the scan data and get more accurate results.Hesheng Dental Lab is also working digitally. For the open system, clinicians can download the scan data and mail it directly to the lab via the email address provided.
At Hesheng Dental Lab, nearly 100% of case design is handled through dental design software. This allows our experienced technicians to shape every aspect of the restoration, ensuring a precise fit, function, and aesthetics. This fully digital design process guarantees greater accuracy in the final restoration, as the errors inherent in traditional indentations and stone model pouring are completely eliminated.
Once the digital prosthesis is designed, the design file is transferred to the appropriate production team based on the materials and type of prosthetics required by the clinician. Regardless of the effect of the impression, all restorations in the Hesheng Dental laboratory are precisely crafted using the same cutting-edge technology and processes.
